With more fuel efficient cars on the road (less gas tax), more miles of transit being built (North Star and Lt Rail) and cars
lasting for a longer time (less vehicle sales tax) we have to have a long term vision on how the state will fund MNDOT for
roads, bridges and maintenance of our highways.

Ideas for the future of funding MNDOT

1. Mileage tax vs. a gas tax?

2. Weight tax on vehicles?

3. More toll roads?

4. A combination of the above questions

Anyway we look at it, now is the time to get ideas started for future funding for MNDOT to keep our transportation system
operating.
We can not ever let a lack funding for transportation and bridges to cause a loss of life or a cause of injures. The 35 W
bridge collapse is still being investigated and law suits will be in the courts for years to come. A non-engineer (the Lt. Gov)
was appointed (by the Gov) to head MNDOT for one reason, to save money. 13 citizens were killed and over 140 injured
because the Gov wanted to save money. How can a non-highway engineer make important decisions on roads and bridges
when they do not have the background to understand construction of roads and bridges?
